Taiwan International Ocean Youth Advisory Committee 2021 Call for Committee Members

Purpose
Taiwan International Ocean Youth Advisory Committee aims to advocate ideas of sustainable development and to promote Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). It is expected to provide direction and feedback, with extensive involvement of youth, for the Ocean Affair Council regarding ocean policies, and to enhance the implementation of international maritime policies. The Advisory Committee also endeavors to advance public participation and autonomy of young adults, with its commitment to international marine education and civic engagement.
Roles and Responsibilities
● Attend international ocean conferences and international maritime organization events.
● Gather and convey ideas, and provide direction and feedback regarding ocean policies.
● Build communication platforms among campus, civil society and the OAC.
● Advice on matters related to the development of international ocean youth.
Eligibility
The application is open to R.O.C citizens and foreign nationals (international students) aged 15 to 25.
Please Note:
Applicants ranking Division of International Participation as their first choice are required to submit proof of English proficiency. Intermediate or higher level of GEPT, or other equivalent qualifications will meet the requirements.1
Length of Term
2 years (July 1 st , 2021 to June 30 th , 2023)
Seat Opening
When a seat is open prior to its termination of term, the OAC is eligible to appoint an alternate candidate to fill this role, and the appointment ends on the original termination date. If the remaining period of the opening is less than a quarter of the term length, this procedure is waived.
Committee Structure
● Division of Planning: responsible for the collection and communication of ideas, development of policy recommendations, and the overall strategic plans for the committee.
● Division of Public Participation: responsible for promoting youth public participation, student autonomy, international marine education, and civic engagement.
● Division of International Participation: responsible for global connection, youth international participation and exchange, advocacy of sustainable development, and promotion of Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
Number and Distribution of Seats
Division of Planning: 12 members (with 5 alternate candidates). ∙ Division of Public Participation: 12 members (with 5 alternate candidates). ∙
Division of International Participation: 26 members (with 10 alternate candidates).

Parameters such as gender-balanced participation, regions and ethnicity are also taken into account in the selection process. .
